Participation in RCS

Here's how you can participate in rules and standards and influence new developments

Globally unified rules and approval processes accelerate time to market and provide consumers with standardized products; and you can have a say in the process.

Participate

Involvement in Standardization Work

In principle, any person can apply to participate in standardization committees. This is done by contacting the DIN Secretariat of a standardization or working committee.

In most cases, the members of the committees are individuals or organizations, consultants as well as experts from practice or science, institutes, professional associations and companies. Registered members receive access to the relevant documents of the committee after signing the confidentiality regulations of DIN. The topic-specific working committees also have the function of recommending and networking national experts for the international standardization committees and working groups of CEN and ISO and are therefore also referred to as mirror committees.

Advantages of Participation

Contact

The Hydrogen Technologies Working Committee (National Committees, din.de) within the DIN Standards Committee on Gas Technology (NAGas) acts as a national mirror committee to international standards committees:

  • ISO/TC 197 „Hydrogen Technologies“
  • CEN-CENELEC/JTC 6 „Hydrogen in Energy Systems“
  • CEN/TC 268 WG 5 „Specific Hydrogen Technologies Applications“
Chair of the mirror committee is Elena Hof, Head of the National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Innovation Program at NOW GmbH. If you are interested in participating in the working committee, you can also contact Mr. Uwe Klaas directly via the DIN contact form.

Procedure

Procedure for Creating Standards

Most standards relating to hydrogen and fuel cell technologies are developed at international (ISO) or European (CEN) level. At the beginning of the process, the national mirror committees (standards committees) have the opportunity to register national experts for the corresponding working group in a so-called “Call for Experts”.

The development or revision of a standard then takes place in several stages, which include the formulation of a draft standard and a subsequent comment phase. The comments received are used in the next stage to revise and circulate a new draft (see schematic representation of the process at ISO level on the right).

Financing

Financing Options for SMEs

Participation in standards is labor-intensive, both in technical and monetary terms. In most cases, these efforts are borne by the respective interest groups or companies. However, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can rarely afford this. As a result, companies that have to adapt quickly to market changes are left out when standards are being drafted.
For this reason, the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection has implemented the funding program “WIPANO – Knowledge and Technology Transfer through Patents and Standards”.
